I flew from Montreal, to Newark, to Tokyo, to Singapore. To be quite honest, I left North America unorganized without having done enough research. There were places I had planned to avoid and others I sought to see, but for the most part I spent four weeks on my own terms.

When I arrived in Singapore I went to the information desk at Changi Airport and told them my plan was to travel to Bangkok by buss and train. The woman at the desk laughed at me.

This is my Southeast Asia adventure.

Thailand

Bangkok was further than I anticipated. I traveled 40 hours using public transit and buses through Singapore and Malaysia. There was little time to sleep, let alone change clothes or take a shower.

Eventually my bus arrived in Hat Yai, Thailand. Exhausted - I scoured several blocks in search of the quickest journey to an area with other backpackers. At this point I just wanted a cold shower, dinner, a beach, and some beer.

The bus towards Phuket was the only one leaving at a reasonable time, so I took it. Originally, I didn't want to go there. Ended up meeting some great people, though.

A friend told me about Ko Samui & Ko Tao. After a bit of research, I decided on my next destinations.

The islands were paradise, particularly Ko Tao. If I could return tomorrow, I would. There's nothing quite like a day of diving, and a night by the beach.

There's no single word that describes Bangkok. It was a disgusting, awesome, hectic, beautiful, strange mess filled with amazing food. Next up was Malaysia.

MALAYSIA

We spent a few days exploring the city. Though it was special in its own way - cities are cities to me.

Langkawi was paradise with mediocre food. I think I got my best R&R here. Stayed at a homestead surrounded by tall grass, wild cats, and brown cows. Spent the days visiting waterfalls, riding scooters, and reading on beaches.

Singapore

Singapore, on the other hand, is a special city. Politics aside, it's an incredibly clean city filled with a mixture of Western and Eastern influence in food, style, and architecture.

After Singapore I began my restless trek back to Montreal. This adventure was over.
